Maria Buchanan PhD (Education and Counselling Psychology)

Dr. Marla Buchanan is an Associate Professor in the department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Special Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. She has been involved in collaborative participatory prison research for the last four years. Her research interests in the field of trauma have involved projects on secondary traumatization among mental health care providers and first responders including journalists. Her research extends her interests in social justice issues and emancipatory research methods. She is predominantly a qualitative researcher with expertise in narrative research methods. On this project, her contributions include methodological support in design and data analysis as well as substantive knowledge of trauma theory and practice (intervention and prevention).
